7.8 WinCVS (Concurrent Version System for Windows)

Introduction to WinCVS

WinCVS is the Concurrent Version System for Windows, the dominant open-source network-transparent version control system. CVS is useful for everyone from individual developers to large, distributed teams.

WinCVS helps to manage releases and to control the concurrent editing of source files among multiple authors. You will be able to format all committed source files before they are finally stored to the CVS repository. With this integration the source codes in your CVS (or for a special project) can use a predefined coding style.

Manual installation of Jindent's CVS plugin

In the Jindent installation directory you will find a /plugins/wincvs/ subdirectory. Change into this directory and you will find the Jindent.py file which you need for the WinCVS plugin installation.

The Jindent.py python script file needs to be saved into the Macro directory where WinCVS is installed.

For example:

C:\Program Files\GNU\WinCvs 1.3\Macros\Jindent.py

Before invoking WinCVS all pathes (the path of the Jindent.exe file and the location of the Jindent settings file) in the Jindent.py file has to be updated to the user's system configuration.

This integration needs WinCvs 1.3.4 or later and has been successfully tested with 1.3.10 release of WinCVS.
